Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do you pronounce “Pointii”?
You guys couldn’t come up with a better name? It’s pronounced “Point-ee”. We used all of our creative juices on making the name and site awesome and unique; please forgive us. If you would like to know where it came from, I guess we might as well explain that too (smiles). We focus heavily on points because it verifies the amount of career readiness and experience that a student has earned. We also work our best to make the process “gamified”. That said, if you are familiar with the videogame console Wii, guess where we got the “ii” from in Pointii. Now, you know our little secret!
  • How does Pointii work?
It’s simple! Are you familiar with LinkedIn? If so, we are similar, but everything professionals do on LinkedIn, students do on Pointii. The bonus feature is that students are taught about recommendations/endorsements, elevator pitches, goal and career planning, and soft skills before they complete each module on their profile. As students build their Pointii profiles, educators track their professional development. Because our platform is extremely innovative and gamified, we have proven are system to better prepare students for the workplace, as well as work-based learning experiences.
  • How does Pointii help students prepare for career?
How don’t we? Just kidding, but no seriously. Every module completed by a student is a step closer to reaching career success. • What are points used for?
The idea of points is derived from a system with a focus on gamification. However, there is also something very psychological about earning points as you grow professionally – its called our brain’s reward center: The Nucleus Accumbens. This area processes rewarding feelings about things like money, food and social acceptance. When students earn points, this part of the brain lights up. The more students spend time in career development, the greater the reward.
  • How long should a Pointii recommendation be?
Pointii recommendations are short and optional. Recommendations should be between 5-7 sentences or 400 characters.
  • What would be considered an acceptable recommendation?
Recommendations should highlight a student’s character, achievements and/or impact. Please remember that companies may view the recommendation so keep it appropriate and about the student. If Pointii deems the recommendation unacceptable or inappropriate, we will take further action which will include an investigation, appropriate legal actions, or suspension/expulsion of an account.
  • Who can give recommendations?
Thus far, recommendations can only be made by school personnel including teachers, counselors, principals and school partner organizations. Professionals who offer students career experiences can write them as well. However, emails left by the recommender must be a work or school email (e.g. melissa.mccarthy@bigpublicschools.org or lforte@pointii.com). If recommenders use personal email accounts like Gmail, Yahoo, etc., the recommendation will not be accepted, or it will be recorded as unverified.
